General Motors recently donated a pre-production model of the self-driving Chevy Bolt, an all-electric hatchback that boasts one of the highest electric driving ranges in the auto industry, to the Henry Ford Museum’s “Driving America” exhibit.
This exhibit shows the growth of innovation in the auto industry over the last 150 years, from the oldest surviving American-made car, the 1865 Ford Roper, to the earliest racing cars of the 1960s. It also has more modern additions such as the first hybrids dating from the early 2000s. As one of the first fully electric cars to incorporate self-driving tech, the Chevy Bolt definitely enhances the vehicle’s “green car” models on display.
GM and Ford may be fierce rivals, but as America’s two biggest native automakers, in many ways they’re partners. GM donated $5 million to the Henry Ford Museum back in 2017, recognizing the value of a museum in preserving American auto history in the Motor City.
Ford plans to display the self-driving Chevrolet Bolt at the very front of the “Driving America” exhibit, according to museum curator Matt Anderson. The Bolt will be the first vehicle the Henry Ford Museum displays that uses self-driving technology, making its inclusion even more special.

You might not realize it, but General Motors is very dedicated to the future of electric vehicles. In fact, it has already produced two popular electrified cars, the innovative Chevrolet Volt and the all-electric Chevrolet Bolt. In Europe, however, GM is also focusing on something else, electric bikes.
The brand’s electric bikes, which are branded as ARĪV eBikes, are set to go on sale later this year in Europe. Last year, GM held an online crowdsourcing campaign to help choose the name for the eBike brand. In the end, ARĪV came out as the winner.
There will be two models available, the Merge and the Meld. The Meld is a compact bike, while the Merge can be folded to make it fit into even smaller storage areas.
When fully charged, the bikes can drive up to 64 kilometers (39.76 miles) and reach speeds up to 25 kph (15.53 mph). It takes about 3.5 hours to fully recharge the bikes. The bikes will come with a companion app that will let owners track its charge status and other valuable information. There will also be a USB port on the bike so riders can charge up mobile devices, too.
The bikes will go on sale in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany late this spring with a price between $3-4K.

A spring break road trip is a great way to escape the daily grind, but it can also take a toll on your wallet depending on where you go. Luckily, there are a number of affordable spring break destinations, especially if you’re willing to take a road trip. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing beach setting or simply a change of pace, there’s an ideal spring break location for everyone.
Travel Channel recommends taking a trip to Washington D.C. While most people don’t think of the U.S. capital as a spring break destination, it has tons of history, lots of free museums and galleries, and iconic landmarks. Plus, there are a number of great places to stop along the route from Florida to D.C.
Looking for something a little closer to home? Visit Sanibel Island, Florida. It’s best to visit this area between February and April, however, if you want to find shells along the shore. Plus, the sandy beaches provide a comfortable place to relax, and it’s less crowded than other beaches in the state during spring break.
Lastly, New Orleans, Louisiana is another great, budget-friendly destination. The city boasts a dynamic nightlife scene, Southern comfort food, and a historic French quarter. Plus, if you avoid airfare and opt for road-tripping, you can save even more money.
Contact us at Vann Gannaway Chevrolet if your vehicle needs a tune-up before you embark on your spring break road trip.
The new Silverado stands out from the competition. The latest reason is that it just earned an award from WardsAuto. The new 6.2-liter V8 engine was ranked on the Wards 10 Best Engines List, offering Dynamic Fuel Management to save you money at the gas pump without sacrificing power. The massive engine is the largest and most powerful gasoline V8 in the segment.
WardsAuto evaluates every all-new or improved engine available in the US, gauging factors like power, torque, fuel economy, noise, and innovative technologies. Judges were particularly impressed by the Dynamic Fuel Management system, which works to alternative between eight- and four-cylinder modes to save on gas when possible. According to Chevy, the new 6.2-liter V8 engine generates 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, and it’s paired with an innovative Hydra-Matic 10-speed automatic transmission.
“Chevrolet first introduced its Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation system in 2005, and Dynamic Fuel Management is a natural progression of the technology,” said Jordan Lee, Small Block chief engineer. “Dynamic Fuel Management enables only the cylinders needed to deliver the power you want, seamlessly delivering the best balance of power and fuel economy.”
In addition to the innovative engine, the new Silverado comes with a lighter design, cutting 450 pounds compared to previous model years thanks to a new mixed-material design. Offered in regular, double, and crew cab body styles with available 4WD, the Silverado is perfect for everyone. To learn more about it or go for a test drive, contact us at Vann Gannaway Chevrolet.
Want to show your loved one you care without breaking the bank? Here are some ideas on how to have a meaningful Valentine’s Day on a budget.
- Dress up to eat in: Rather than spending tons of money eating out, spend the time to make a thoughtful, home-cooked meal. To make it extra special, dress up in your finest clothes, light some candles, and swear off phones and technology for the evening.
- Make a homemade card or gift: Making something for the person you love says so much more than simply buying them something you think they’d like. Spend the time to write a thoughtful card or make a thoughtful gift.
- Make a playlist together for just the two of you: This activity makes for hours of fun and reminiscing with your loved one as you decide on your favorite songs as a couple and ones that express how you feel about one another. What’s more, this is the gift that keeps giving – you can enjoy the playlist year-round.
- Pick out a few favorite memories to recreate: Maybe you both remember watching a certain movie on one of your first dates together, or you both love a particular hiking trail. Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to re-watch one of your favorite movies or spend some time together outdoors.

Is one of your goals for 2019 to be a better car owner? You can start by making these car-themed New Year’s resolutions:
Get Regular Service
Getting your car regularly serviced is essential in prolonging its life. Check your Chevrolet’s owner’s manual for specific service timelines. If you take your vehicle to Vann Gannaway Chevy, we’ll give you reminders about your regular service.
Keep It Clean
One of the best things you can do for your car is to keep it clean throughout the year. Commit to regularly throwing out trash and vacuuming your interior. Try to get the exterior of your Chevy washed often, as this will not only eliminate dirt, but it will help protect your vehicle’s finish.
Your oil helps your engine run smoothly, so be sure to change it on a regular basis. About every 3,000 miles is a good rule of thumb, but that varies from vehicle to vehicle, so check your owner’s manual. Be sure to check other fluids, like coolant, wiper fluid, and brake fluid regularly and top off when needed.
Maintain Tire Pressure
Measure your tire pressure regularly throughout the year, and fill them back up when they’re running low. If your tires have experienced too much wear and tear, consider getting new tires entirely, which we at Vann Gannaway Chevy can help you with.
Now that we are in the midst of the holiday season, we will all have family events and parties aplenty. These gatherings almost always include food, which means you will need to transport food in your car on a regular basis. To do it safely and without spilling, it will take some preparation. Here is what you need to do.
Nothing warms your belly quite like a delicious casserole. If you are bringing along your favorite, you will need an empty box or laundry basket and a handful of towels. Line the bottom of the box with a towel and place the casserole dish on top. Put the rest of the towels around the dish to hold it in tightly. Then, place a rubber mat underneath the box or basket before you put it in your trunk.
If you are bringing cookies or small hors-d’oeuvres you don’t want them smashed before you arrive. Place a kitchen towel on top of a baking sheet. Arrange all your items on top of the towel. Then, wrap everything, including the baking sheet, in plastic wrap. Use a rubber mat underneath to keep it from sliding around your car.
If you want your carefully crafted holiday dishes to arrive in style, contact us at Vann Gannaway Chevrolet to see the vehicles we have on our lot.
While some people don’t mind blending in with the crowd, many of us like to express our own personalities and find ways to stand out. At the end of this month at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Chevrolet will showcase unique ways to customize the all-new 2019 Silverado.
It will display four custom trucks that feature numerous accessories and parts for the 2019 Silverado. These trucks will show customers how easy it can be to create a truck that suits their needs and lifestyle.
Hugh Milne, Silverado marketing manager, said, “With a full catalog of accessories and performance parts, we offer exponentially more ways for customers to build their ideal truck. And, unlike certain aftermarket components, these are designed, engineered and validated to the same engineering standards as the Silverado itself, and backed by Chevrolet.”
The updated accessories and performance parts include items like illuminated bowtie emblems, step kits, tonneau covers, brake systems, and cargo bed storage boxes. The GM-designed parts are built to fit and work precisely with the redesigned Silverado. In addition, if installed at a Chevrolet dealership, they are covered by a warranty.
You can take a look at these new accessories and part online at Chevrolet.com/accessories. Contact us at Vann Gannaway Chevrolet for more information about delivery and installation.
Living in Florida has a variety of benefits. One of those is living so close to so many beautiful beaches. However, after spending a sunny day at the beach, the inevitable happens—you get sand in your car or truck. Here are a few tips on how to get that sand out of your car.
Shake It Out
Once you get home from the beach, carefully take everything out of your car and shake it out. This includes the floor mats and any seat protectors you might have. When you are planning a trip to the beach, it is a good idea to use covers on the seats and floors, or at least towels, if you don’t have anything else.
If sand does get in your carpet or upholstery, you need to get it out as quickly as possible. This is because as it works itself into the carpet, it can eventually break apart the fibers. After shaking everything out, use a strong vacuum to suck up all the sand. Make sure you get in between all the crevices. Use a damp microfiber cloth to clean up any remaining particles. You can also use q-tips to clean in hard-to-reach areas.
If you need a new vehicle to take to the beach, or you’re just looking for some new floor mats to help keep the sand contained, contact us at Vann Gannaway Chevrolet.
If you child in high school or college, it’s time to get your car ready for the new school year. Especially for new drivers, it’s crucial to make sure your car is in great condition in order to avoid any dangerous situations whether your child is on their way to high school or driving around campus. Follow these tips for getting your car ready for back to school so your student driver can drive with confidence.
Before your kid heads back to school, take some time to examine out the condition of their car’s tires. Check for proper inflation, alignment and tread and consider replacing the tires if they are looking visibly worn down. Healthy tires are one of the most important aspects of car safety, so replacing them before they’re completely worn out is always a good idea.
Check emergency kit
Your child’s car should contain an emergency kit containing essential items that make a huge difference in the event of an emergency. Such a kit should have a blanket, a change of clothes, and a battery-powered cellphone charge, food, and water.
Talk about safety
Finally, talk to your kid about driving safety before they go back to school. Between late night parties and all-nighter study sessions, there is plenty of potential for dangerous driving situations at school.
If your teen’s car isn’t quite up to standards, or you’re looking for a car to buy, contact us at Vann Gannaway Chevrolet. We’ll be happy to help make sure this school is the safest one ever.
